With the ONE ONE ONE event series, KfW Stiftung invites dancers to the KfW premises on 16 October.

On 16 October 2024, the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company will perform ‘ONE ONE ONE’ at various locations in Frankfurt. ONE ONE ONE has already taken place in streets, squares, schools, hospitals and shopping centres around the world. This October, choreographer Ioannis Mandafounis will stage his largest performance to date with around 50 dancers in the city.

ONE ONE ONE proposes a special relationship with the audience. Away from the theatre stage, the performers of the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company occupy everyday spaces and use them for unexpected encounters. One chair, one dancer - that is the starting point for ONE ONE ONE. When a person sits down on a chair, the performance begins - one to one. The dance is performed as long as the audience maintains eye contact. In ONE ONE ONE, the audience's emotions are translated through the performers' dance and sent back to them. This simple agreement between audience and performers creates a protected performative environment in the public space that allows room for unique encounters.

This year, KfW employees can experience the ONE ONE ONE performance format in the centre of the KfW premises. All other locations of the performance can be found here.

The Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company is a contemporary dance ensemble of the highest standard under the artistic direction of choreographer Ioannis Mandafounis (from season 2023/24). The company's distinctive style uniquely combines traditional heritage and contemporary thought. It develops, presents and communicates dance with the goal of connecting people, inspiring them and increasing their enthusiasm for dance. It is the company-in-residence at two performance venues, HELLERAU – European Centre for the Arts in Dresden and Bockenheimer Depot in Frankfurt am Main. As an internationally celebrated ensemble, it also gives guest performances worldwide. In 2015, the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company was formed from the independent ensemble The Forsythe Company. Founded by William Forsythe in 2005 as a successor to Ballet Frankfurt, The Forsythe Company became one of the world’s most renowned dance ensembles. As of the 2015/2016 season, Jacopo Godani was appointed Artistic Director and since then the group has performed as the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company.

Ioannis Mandafounis was born in Athens and studied dance at the Paris Conservatory. Before starting his career as a freelance choreographer, he was a dancer with Gothenburg Opera Ballet, Nederlands Dans Theater II and The Forsythe Company.
