Digital Equity

In Germany, there remains a significant need for greater support for STEM education. Without targeted support, a massive shortage of skilled workers could arise in the future, which would hinder innovation and economic growth.

At the same time, the strong link between educational success and social background remains a challenge. The ongoing digital transformation is fundamentally changing the demands placed on education.

Especially in the age of AI systems that can automatically generate code and take on tasks, the underlying skills are becoming increasingly important: algorithmic thinking, systematic problem-solving, and a critical understanding of technology. Those who learn these skills can use AI as a helpful tool—those who do not remain primarily consumers.

For over 10 years, Hacker School gGmbH has been committed to introducing young people to technology and IT through low-barrier approaches, regardless of their background or gender.

The goal is to transform passive digital users into active creators and thereby promote digital participation. Through its @yourschool courses, the organization reaches over 10,000 young people in the classroom each year.

With the project “Digital Equity Through Sustainable Educational Innovations,” funded by KfW Stiftung, Hacker School gGmbH can expand its existing initiative and bridge the gap between introductory information on technology and IT and more advanced projects (e.g., TUMO). The foundation of this effort is the development of a learning motivation system that builds on the knowledge gained in the school course.

Thanks to the project’s broad-based approach, a significant impact can be achieved through
