Reading and Dialogue

Can Artificial Intelligence Save Nature?

From monitoring endangered species to high-resolution analysis of ecosystem health:

Artificial intelligence (AI) has long been used in nature conservation. But does this justify the enormous energy and resource consumption driven by the AI hype?

In their book "Kann KI die Natur retten?", Frauke Fischer and Hilke Oberhansberg take a critical look at the techno-ecological future. They show how artificial intelligence can help protect biodiversity—if it is used wisely—but also highlight the conservation risks that arise from the use of AI.

We are very pleased to welcome Frauke Fischer on 12 February at Villa 102 for a combination of a reading and a dialogue format. In conversation with Christian Baudis, she will discuss how AI is already being used in nature conservation today, where the opportunities lie—and where we need to take a closer look.
