Performance at Villa 102
When the last person who remembers is gone, whole worlds disappear forever. In Frankfurt's Villa 102, the Israeli-American artist, writer, choreographer and performer Neta Pulvermacher explores her German-Jewish family history. Constructing a post-memory performative journey, her work, "The Archive", follows the traces to Frankfurt - once her family’s home. She sorts out documents, old pictures and personal artifacts and conjures up fragmented narratives, voices and characters that emerge briefly, only to fade back into oblivion. In the choreography created through research and memory, Pulvermacher combines real and imagined sites and events. For a moment, this pursuit of traces is materialised in the rooms of the Villa 102, a place of remembrance itself, and the past becomes present. Especially in times of crisis, the question of memory and its significance for understanding our world(s) takes on a new relevance.
KfW Stiftung presents the performance, originally conceived for a four-person cast, for the first time as an adapted solo version on 13 and 14 March 2024. Following the German premiere on 13 March, Neta Pulvermacher invites to an artist talk and German “Abendbrot”.
"The Archive" premiered in July 2023 at the Leo Baeck Institute in Jerusalem and is supported by The Jerusalem Foundation and Israeli Ministry of Culture & Sport. The performances at Villa 102 in Frankfurt take place with the kind support of the Jewish Community Frankfurt and Shosh and Eliezer Carmel.
