Social Impact Lab Duisburg 2015-2018

Boosting innovation and entrepreneurship

On 17 June 2016, the Social Impact Lab Duisburg opened its doors in Duisburg-Ruhrort, becoming the first centre dedicated to social innovation and entrepreneurship in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Besides KfW Stiftung, the project was initiated by Franz Haniel & Cie. GmbH, the foundation Prof. Otto Beisheim Stiftung and Social Impact gGmbH.
The aim is to form a regional network and to establish a comprehensive programme of events and training opportunities to improve the conditions for developing social innovations in the Rhine-Ruhr area in the long term and to promote structural change.
Thanks to the successful launch of the training programmes “AndersGründer” and “Ankommer.Perspektive Deutschland”, the first teams were able to move into temporary offices on the Haniel site as early as late autumn 2015 and to begin transforming their innovative ideas into viable social business models.
